Thanks to @levelsio's I'm Launching 12 Startups in 12 Months Challenge that this 24 Startups 24 Months Page exists and you are reading what you are reading right now.
Similar to the 12 startups in 12 months challenge, the challenge is to finish and launch projects. But instead of 12 months, we decided to do it for the next 24 months. The goal is to launch projects which will generate an income.
I wrote "we", because we are @sonnypgs and @ronatory. We are doing this together, to motivate and learn from each other, but in the end each of us is working independently on his monthly idea. Also the chance will be higher in the end that one startup will take off out of at most 48 combined.
Why 24 startups in 24 months?
There are different reasons for that. First, because the 12 startups in 12 months challenge is kind of known already and if you search for "12 startups in 12 months" you will find already a lot of people who have tried the challenge.
If you search for "24 startups in 24 months" this page is already ranked at #1 (at least in my google search results. Also the title will probably be changed to "24 Startups in 24 Months" 😉)
If you dig deeper there is this post Launching 24 startups in 24 months — not mine, yours! but it doesn't seem like a challenge, it's more about helping others to start something. So the first reason is that we have here kind of a niche and we seem to be the first one. (I could also be wrong, but it looks like that)
Another reason is the timing
If not NOW then WHEN?
When you have a job, you can't focus 100% on your side projects, so this is the time where we have the resources and the skills to focus 100% full time on shipping our own projects. Doing everything by ourselves: the design, the backend, the frontend, the marketing, etc. you name it... I think if you have an once-in-a-lifetime chance to do that, working 100% full-time on your own things without thinking about how to pay your rent then I would regret it not taking that chance.
"But 24 months is a long time frame..."
Sure it's long, but when you look back around 24 months ago (Dec 2019), there was a world without COVID and now think about it if you could do what you want to do in that time frame, working on stuff you want to work on. Also if you think of it, 24 startups in 24 months would actually be the worst case. Ideally, one of the ideas will take off earlier so that we can focus our efforts on only the most successful project(s).
We are starting with the challenge on January 1st 2022. So the first two startups from each of us will be published in new blogposts at the end of January 2022. If you want to be part of that journey then just subscribe below and get updates via email.
